NCR Trooper Build

NCR Trooper Build
While poking around the internet and this site I noticed a lack of NCR troopers, plenty of Caesar's minions but not a large force to keep them in check, seeing as Rangers are stretched thin in the wastes I've decided to enlist and try to make the wastes a better place.

So here is the "official" definition that I pulled straight out of the vault...

Fallout: New Vegas character
NCR trooper

Biography
race Human
Ghoul
affiliation NCR
role Soldier
location California
Mojave Wasteland

NCR troopers are the main foot soldiers for the NCR in the Mojave wasteland during 2281.

The foundation of the New California Republic Army, the troopers are men and women who have either volunteered or have been conscripted to serve in the NCR military as the hammer of the Republic. Their backgrounds, level of training, equipment, and even loyalty vary widely amongst the thousands of troopers. However, the fact that the NCR fields a substantial army all equipped with firearms has given the NCR the edge in numerous wars. Unfortunately, the Mojave Campaign pitted the NCR against a determined foe: Caesar's Legion. Though the bulk of Caesar's warriors were forced to do battle with crude blades against NCR riflemen, their superior conditioning, fearlessness, and greater numbers have forced the NCR into defensive positions.
Background
The Republic has been hard pressed to deploy enough troops to the Mojave, where the sheer size of the territory requires a great number of personnel to properly secure it. Coupled with the rising death toll at the hand of the legionaries, the NCR's position is swiftly becoming tenuous. To make matters worse, the NCR's most experienced soldiers are being killed daily, leaving naught but recruits rushed out of training into battle. As a result, the NCR is forced to deal with sagging morale and daily reductions in their troop strength.
pauldrons

Here's the important part

Equipment
The standard NCR trooper's uniform is one of the several variants ofNCR armor. Composed of a khaki tunic with bellowed hip pockets and khaki breeches, worn with a desert facewrap and hardened leather pauldrons, black leather fingerless gloves, arm wraps, brown boots and khaki puttees. The uniform was designed to resist the rigors of the desert and long campaigns.
The main protection provided by their uniform comes from the thick leather breastplate that covers the torso and the layers of fabric over the arms and legs. Their armor is robust enough to withstand knife strikes and small-caliber firearms.

An average soldier in the NCR army is issued with a service rifle. A 9mm pistol is provided as a sidearm. Given its reliability, ease of manufacture, and firepower, the service rifle is ideal for the grueling war in the Mojave. However, due to logistical troubles and supply shortages, not all troopers can be issued with a service rifle, and instead, they must make do with whatever firearm is available.

In the year 2281, the official uniform of the New California Republic Army consists of a khaki tunic with bellowed hip pockets and khaki breeches, worn with a desert facewrap and hardened leather pauldrons, black leather fingerless gloves, arm wraps, brown boots and khaki puttees. A metal breastplate with the emblem of the NCR painted on is worn in combat, attached to two leather straps on the pauldrons. NOTICE ANY DISCREPANCIES???

Variants
NCR trooper armor is worn by NCR troopers. All the other outfits are a variant of this.
NCR bandoleer armor has a pocketed bandoleer wrapped around the torso to carry extra ammunition and other supplies.
NCR face wrap armor has the facewrap pulled over the user's face. This shields the user's face from the elements, especially with the goggles helmet on.
NCR mantle armor is distinguished by a camouflaged cloth wrapped around the user's shoulder. It is often seen being worn by officers but is also worn by NCO's (Sergeants and Corporals).
NCR Military Police armor is worn by NCR's MP officers. It is identical in appearance to the NCR trooper fatigues, except that this variant has a small black and white "MP" armband on each arm. It's helmet is black with MP written across it.
NCR injured trooper armor is worn by injured NCR troopers. This armor is marked as unplayable and can't be taken from the troopers corpse.
NCR trooper fatigues are identical in appearance to the NCR Trooper Armor, except for the chest armor. While all other NCR armors of this type have 10 DT and are Medium-class, this armor has 2 DT and is classified as light armor.

Behind the scenes
Inspiration for the outfits came from British and Australian gear used around World War II.

That parts important too, although thru my digging on the internet it seems more of a US WW1 pair of pants and I've seen reference to a WW1 civilian air raid warden helmet instead of a fabric pith helmet in the style of the WW2 U.S. Marines/ vietcong.

Soooo... this leads me to this starting this thread. This is the start of my current saga and I will update it as I progress on the build. My plan for the discrepancy is to make a metal chest plate and leather pauldrons.

Here's my starting supplies, I love The Sportsman's Guide!

I think this is looking pretty sweet bro! If you can't find matching kaki pants and shirts and such you can always add a little bleach to water let it soak then dye it,

RE: NCR Trooper Build
yes, and other military collectable sites but originals are now what, 95 years old? I'd feel bad beating on them, I even tried to find a pattern so I could make my own.... no luck, so I'll suck it up and pay the man.

RE: NCR Trooper Build
The pants look like equestrian riding pants to me. With a simple google search I found this person on etsy who makes them for 65 bucks. Maybe she can alter the design a bit to fit your needs.

You can also search "Cavalry Pants Pattern" and you can get what you need.
